American Sampler
This CD showcases some of Liz and Russell’s favorite American songwriters. We wanted to focus on timeless songs with melodies that linger, and lyrics that resonate with us. We invite the listener in…as if you were sitting on the porch with us while we play some of our old favorites. We play and sing all the words and most of the notes you hear on the CD, so it truly reflects our sound.
We also highlight three of Russell’s originals. “Church Hill Tunnel” is a true story of a 1926 train tunnel collapse in Richmond, and was recognized by American Songwriter Magazine for its lyrics. “GrandMa and Me” is a very personal story, based on Russell’s maternal grandparents in South Carolina. And “Delta Blessing” was composed following a mission trip to New Orleans and influenced by observing the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina.
